Blepharoplasty (Upper eyelid reduction)

Concerned about bulges or bags around the eyes? Blepharoplasty may be the solution

Blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure on the upper and/or lower eyelids, designed to remove excess skin folds and bludging bags – to improve eye appearance. The procedure rejuvenates the periorbital region but will not improve wrinkles of the cheeks, temples or forehead. The procedure does not resolve problems caused by drooping eyebrows.

How is the procedure performed?

For the lower eyelid an incision is made just under the eyelid. For the upper eyelid, an incision is made on the upper fold of the eye lid. It is a day procedure, and takes approximately one hour for either the upper of lower eyelid, or two hours for combined upper and lower eyelids. A blepharoplasty is performed under light sedation, local or general anaesthetic. Patients are not capable of driving home after the procedure.

Recovery

There are no dressings and the stitches are removed between five and seven days after surgery. Makeup can be worn after the first week, however bruising will last for one to two weeks and it is advised patients take one week off work to recover.
